The Pikorua or single twist shape represents the eternal emerging paths in life.  The figure-eight form symbolizes the bond between two people, their loyalty and love, two people will always find their way back to each other.

Double and triple twist forms represent the relationship between different peoples or cultures.  They were often gifted as a symbol of friendship between tribes.

Koru, 

The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’.  The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
