Heru (ornamental combs) were traditionally used by Māori men to fasten their long hair, which was braided, up into topknots.  Heru indicated the rank of the wearer. 

Today the Heru are a popular adornment for celebrations including Weddings, Graduations and other milestones. 

The Pikorua ( Twist ) Stands for the bond between two people. whether this might be by friendship, love, or family. The twist symbol also resembles the path of life and eternity. Double and triple twists can represent the relationship between different peoples or cultures
